Praying Mantis Medicine and Trusting Divine Timing
The search for a new home is taking much longer than anticipated. The most recent search took us to the Sacramento area, and again, we couldn’t get excited. What did get me excited, though, was discovering a Praying Mantis twice in one day!
I was even foolish enough to consider the possibility that “this was the house” as my Mantis friend was clearly there waiting on the back handrail, welcoming me to the neighborhood! Once I got back in the car, (after getting my husband and the realtor a tad excited). I confessed that I was clearly wrong and there was no way I was interested in that house. (I mean, I needed to shut down that possibility). I had the perfect house in mind, and it was certainly not here. What was I thinking?
I was reminded of my pet Mantis back in Pennsylvania, she lived in our front garden for weeks and would always be near when I was outside. What a treasure to have her around.
After the Sacramento trip, I decided to remind myself of Praying Mantis's meaning. Here is what Avia (at What’s Your Sign) has to say: https://www.whats-your-sign.com/animal-symbolism-mantis.html
Praying Mantis medicine teaches wisdom and patience, especially with acquiring what you want. The mantis never makes a move unless she is 100% positive it is the right thing for her to do. This is a message to us to contemplate and be sure our minds and souls all agree together about the choices we are making in our lives.
An appearance from the mantis is a message to be still, go within, meditate, get quiet, and reach a place of calm. It may also be a sign for you to be more mindful of the choices you are making and confirm that these choices are congruent.
For this, I was eternally grateful; it was a grounded reminder to re-mind the “mind” that the heart would “know” when I discovered the right home for my husband and me. I was feeling the pressure, after all, we were now at about house number 25! Eek…
I decided to call off the search in Sacramento (sorry Sac folks), it just wasn’t for me. We moved around that area and eventually discovered the El Dorado Hills area, which started to feel right (even though it was a gated community). I had said I wouldn’t live in one. Being a humble Canadian with a Taurus earthy complex, I just couldn’t wrap my head around being “all that and a bag of chips”.... Turns out I had to eat those chips….we found a smokin’ deal. It was house #44. The realtor was glad, I was glad, and my husband was elated!
As a quick catch-up for ya’ll. I’m a Feng Shui Practitioner. I feel energy. Color affects me. Smells drive me wacky. And I can tell when someone is hiding something.
In all seriousness, if the front of the house didn’t look decent or at least “fixable,” I would insist on a drive-by. Then it has to pass the “sniff test.” Some smells are permanent, and I can go to bed with those scents stuck on my nose hairs! Eee uwww. But, it’s ok, I have discovered the Netti Pot and am now able to rid scents that choose to stick on nose hairs.
The Realtor (bless his heart) was so patient, he told me that I wasn’t as bad as another lady who brought her Feng Shui Practitioner with her (he was from China), those guys are into the compass and directional facing. So if the house wasn’t facing the particular directions this lady needed, the house was a drive-by as well. He figured they looked at close to 100 houses, and apparently, it took several years of searching.
So, my husband was relieved that there were even more particular clients than me or us?
I began to relax about finding the right house and listened to my gut (along with the medicine my Mantis friend had taught the benefits of prayer).
Eventually, I found the perfect house and had so many wonderful stories and experiences while living there.
Wait, til you hear about Oscar and Lyla! Or, building a Medicine Wheel at the request of Lord Pan, who offered the help of the Fairy Folk!
All is well when all is in Divine Timing.
